Kim Hyde selects books for distribution to community hospitals.
A new project of Mountain Movers International
Kim Hyde, age 17, a senior at Guyer High School in Denton, Texas, recognized the need for the Tender, Loving Care of young children at hospitals during her younger sister's recovery following surgery. After looking at different volunteer opportunities in her community, Kim decided to start her own project of supplying local hospitals with books for pediatric patients.
Kim began by approaching the management at a local Half-Price Books store - who generously agreed to donate all the books she needed (on a long-term basis) for this project. Within a week, she began the project of collecting new and gently used books to be distributed to pediatric patients in local Denton hospitals, with plans to distribute books to other nearby community hospitals and local charity organizations.
While seeking to encourage and share her love of reading with young patients, Kim hopes that TLC Books will make a difference in their hospital stay, and maybe even in their healing process as well. Books will be available to children of all ages, regardless of their nationality or religious background. The children are welcome to keep the books or leave them for other children to read. Since books will need to be periodically replenished, she hopes to form a group of volunteers to assist her with this ongoing project.
As a Mountain Mover, Kim Hyde is serving as a bridge between a need and the resources in her local community.
